Willard Elementary’s third graders recently immersed themselves in Japanese culture in celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Chef Gene Kato, the acclaimed chef behind Chicago’s Momotaro, The Izakaya at Momotaro, and Itoko, visited Helen Chau’s class for a delicious learning experience.
Students rolled their own sushi, got an up-close look at a giant tuna head, and raced gummy fish in a hilarious chopstick relay. Culture, cuisine, and lots of giggles — what a delicious way to learn!
